Trout Peak
TROUT LAKE RETREAT
MAY 2021- JULY 2022
During this journey, which was a WWOOF experience, I set out to “study” this mountain. To invite it into my everyday practice, to sit with it and marvel at it’s beauty. This practice was interlaced with a dedication to take a plunge in this glacier fed lake every day. My purpose at this spot, with this family was multilayered, but at face value you would see that I was there to tend to the gardens. We built a butterfly garden and stone pathway. Planted the yearly veggie patch and keep the flowers blooming and the weeds at bay. This too is part of this journey and part of this project. I considered myself an elemental in residence.
During the time like of this journey the seasons changed from spring to summer, and the world got hit with a head wave like none other. We reached records high of 50 degrees Celsius in British Columbia. Luckily this part of the province is a wilderness retreat and forest and snow capped peaks kept it relatively “cool” for us during this heat wave, managing highs of 37 degrees Celsius was still pretty HOT though! And this lake became my sanctuary, with snorkeling gear I would go for deep free dives, the top foot of surface water was heating up to bathtub temperatures! Hope you managed to stay cool during those crazy hot times.
anywho back to this project, much changed and I evolved during this journey, this here is my curation of this time. A mix of simple pen sketches, to Procreate digital paintings, videos and photos of this time, and excerpts of poetry written often before a cold dip in the lake or in my drawing meditations I would often write.
Enjoy this slice of my life,
